Lead Based Paint Disclosure Requirements for Rutgers University
from Rutgers Environmental Health and Safety (REHS)

Housing built before 1978 may contain lead-based paint. Lead from paint, paint chips, and dust can pose health hazards if not managed properly. Lead exposure is of particular concern to young children (age 6 and under) and pregnant women. Before renting pre-1978 housing, lessors must disclose the presence of known lead-based paint and/or lead-based paint hazards in the dwelling. Lessees must also receive a federally approved pamphlet on lead poisoning prevention.

Click here view the EPA’s Protect Your Family from Lead in Your Home pamphlets. (Available in English, Spanish, Russian, Arabic, Somali, and Vietnamese.)

If you have questions or concerns about lead based paint in Rutgers Housing contact REHS at (732) 445-2550.

Residents of the units listed below must receive Lead Based Paint Disclosure information from Rutgers University Housing prior to moving in.

Single room dormitories and studio apartments are not covered by the regulations and therefore residents do not receive disclosure information.
