Hot Work

Hot work procedures are required when welding, cutting, brazing, using spark producing equipment or using an open flame in areas that are not normally designated for such work.

The Hot Work Permit Procedure Program requires the following:

  1. Prior authorization from
    • Fire and Emergency Services on the New Brunswick Campuses
    • Physical Plant for University Staff and RUPD for Contractors on the Newark Campus
    • Physical Plant on the Camden Campus
  2. Removal of all combustible and flammable materials
  3. Protection of all floor and wall openings
  4. Provision of a fire watch
  5. Fire extinguisher
