When
working on an unprotected walking/working surfaces
that is six feet or greater above the next lower
level, Fall Protection must be provided. Fall
Protection is a system designed to protect employees
from the risk of falls while on an elevated surface
during construction/renovation activities. The
system includes, but are not limited to, guardrails,
lifelines, full-body harness use in conjunction
with lanyard, lifelines, safety nets and fall
arrest systems. Construction/renovation activities
that required fall protection systems include,
but are not limited to, roof work, building interior
as well as exterior work, excavations, theater
scene setups and wall and floor openings.
All
university employees and contractors working at
the conditions described above must follow fall
protection standards outlined by federal, state
regulatory agencies. REHS offers assistance in
evaluating fall protection issues.
