REHS must
be notified of the acquisition or disposal of any radiation-producing
devices. This includes diagnostic x-ray units, x-ray
diffraction units, electron microscopes, particle accelerators,
and any other devices that utilize or produce ionizing
radiation.
Please contact
REHS at 732-445-2550 prior to receiving any x-ray producing
device. All new authorees will be required to complete
the Application for Radiation Producing Devices (click
here for application).
In order
to comply with the regulations set forth by the New
Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP),
all x-ray producing devices must be registered. Once
the unit is received and operable, REHS will come to
your facility to inspect and survey the unit before
it is put into general use. If the unit is operating
in accordance with the regulations, REHS will permit
the unit to be used.
You will
be responsible for the following:
- Assure
that the radiation-producing device meets all the
requirements of the NJDEP.
- Provide
written instructions (SOP) for the safe operation
of the device.
- Keep a
written logbook of the units use to include: operators
name, time and date used.
- Ensure
proper use and return of radiation badges assigned
to the authoree and approved users.
- Assist
REHS with bi-annual inspections of the unit.
Notify REHS
immediately upon any of the following circumstances:
- If an
over-exposure to radiation is suspected.
- Upon failure
of an interlock or fail-safe device.
- Before
the unit is relocated, disposed or transferred.
- After
major modifications or repairs.
